How does anonymous messaging work?

Carry on discussing your report with us anonymously. Report + Support now offers anonymous reporters to opt into two-way messaging without disclosing your identity.

What is anonymous two-way messaging?

Two-way messaging allows you to continue to discuss your report anonymously with an advisor after you’ve submitted it. This allows you to ask questions or seek advice and share more information if you feel ready.

When you fill in a report, you’ll be given the option to opt in to anonymous messaging. This will generate a 16-character code linked to your report and allow you to securely message an advisor. It’s important to save your code somewhere safe. If you lose it, you won’t be able to access your report messages.

Once you have your code, log in to the messaging system to send and receive direct messages between you and your advisor. Your identity will remain anonymous throughout.

Will I have to provide any personal information?

No, you do not need to provide your name or contact details to use the messaging service; it’s completely anonymous. It’s entirely up to you if you wish to provide any information that could identify you. However, please be aware that information you share about the incident itself, such as names or locations, could potentially identify you.

Why use anonymous messaging?

There are many reasons why people choose to remain anonymous when reporting unacceptable behaviour.

Anonymous messaging allows you to:

  • Access support and guidance without revealing your identity
  • Ask questions and receive advice
  • Share additional information when you feel ready

It also helps us to better understand your report and respond appropriately, while still protecting your anonymity.

How soon will I receive a response to my message?

We aim to acknowledge your report within two working days. This is not an emergency service and is only monitored Monday to Friday during working hours. If you have concerns for your safety or that of anyone else, please call the emergency services on 999.
