Student Safeguarding, Prevent and Harassment Policy
This policy outlines RCL's commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for its community. It details our steps to prevent and address discrimination, harassment, bullying, and sexual misconduct, as well as our safeguarding responsibilities toward children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in College activities.
Additionally, this policy reflects RCL's commitment to the Prevent duty, aimed at protecting individuals from terrorism and extremist activity.
Who is this policy for?
The RCL community (includes all staff and visiting staff, students and alumni).
When might you use this policy?
- If you have experienced, witnessed, or are supporting someone who has been treated unfairly, harassed, or bullied—whether in person or online.
- If you experience or witness sexual misconduct, including unwanted sexual behaviour like harassment, assault, or rape, whether on campus, online, at RCL events, or in private settings involving the RCL community, please seek support.
- If you are working with, supporting, or responsible for individuals who may be considered vulnerable (e.g. individuals under the age of 18) or adults at risk.
- Also, in circumstances when you become aware of a risk to an individual who may be considered vulnerable.
Personal Relationships Policy
This policy sets out RCL's expectations and guidance in respect of personal relationships between staff and between staff and students.

The RCL community (includes all staff and visiting staff, students and alumni).
When might you use this policy?
Before starting at RCL, it's important to understand the policy on personal relationships within the community. If you are involved in or aware of a relationship between staff and students or staff members, be mindful of potential conflicts of interest, abuse of power, or perceived bias, especially if there is a power imbalance. Knowing these policies will help you determine any necessary actions.

Student Complaints Procedure
This procedure sets out the process for students to raise complaints about academic or administrative services or facilities provided by RCL.
Who is this procedure for?
- RCL students (including prospective students) plus former students within three months of their programme finishing, or graduation date.
When might you use this procedure?
If you are a student wishing to file a formal complaint about an academic or administrative service or experience provided by RCL, including your experience during a disciplinary process. Please note that this procedure cannot be used to reopen or overturn a disciplinary decision.
Student Disciplinary Procedure
This procedure outlines how RCL handles allegations of misconduct by RCL students.
Who is this procedure for?
- RCL students who are alleged to have breached RCL's rules, policies, or codes of conduct.
- RCL staff responsible for investigating or managing student misconduct.
- Individuals or witnesses affected by an RCL student’s alleged misconduct.
When might you use this procedure?
When a student engages in, or allegedly engages in, behaviour that breaches RCL policy, including harassment and sexual misconduct.
Conduct Policy and Procedure for Staff
This policy sets out the standards of professional behaviour expected from all RCL staff and outlines the procedures for addressing concerns related to staff conduct.
Who is the procedure for?
RCL academic and professional services staff.
When might you use this procedure?
When a staff member has behaved or allegedly behaved in a way that breaches RCL policy, codes of conduct or professional standards, including harassment and sexual misconduct.
Disciplinary Policy and Procedure for Staff
This procedure provides a structured process for addressing disciplinary concerns about academic and professional services staff.
Who is this procedure for?
- RCL academic and professional services staff, plus line managers with responsibilities for academic and professional services staff
- HR staff for guidance and support in applying this procedure
When might you use this procedure?
When a staff member has behaved or allegedly behaved in a way that breaches RCL policy, codes of conduct or professional standards, including harassment and sexual misconduct.
